Ramasamy's father lost one leg during the war. He was injured by cluster shelling at Viswamadhu and has a large scar in his stomach. The damage caused by the shelling has now rendered him totally dependent on his wife for his needs. He has two children, who are seven years and four years of age. The second child was born as they were fleeing during the war at Puthukudiyiruppu. Before they were displaced they had a mini cinema theatre from which they earned for their living.
